DRY WEATHER NOTICE ISSUED BY THE EA FOR THE ANGLIAN REGION. Today (July 15 2022) the EA issued a dry weather notice indicating the risk of Section 57 restrictions on surface water spray irrigators in the Deben, Colne and Stour catchments in Essex. It was noted that due to the long-term rain forecast, other catchments in East Anglia may be subject to similar pressure. We will keep you posted on any developments. SEE EA PAGE FOR DETAILS

Changes to abstraction application and annual charges: The Environment Agency is still planning to introduce new abstraction application and annual charges from 1st April 2022. This is following consultation which closed November 2021 and was approved by the Secretary of State earlier this year. The current charging schedule is going through the final departmental rounds and pending their support will be provided to industry at the beginning of March. If members have any new applications or amendments to applications going in, the advice is to ensure the applications are completed fully. If received before the 1st April 2022, the Environment Agency will validate the application, and it will be under the old charging scheme. Any application received after the 1st April or any application not completed fully and therefore not validated before 1st April, will be subject to the new charges, which, will be higher in all cases than the previous £135. Update gratefully received from Kelly Hewson-Fisher (NFU)
